North Carolina Road Trip!

At GlassBuild America’s Decorative Glass Forum, I had the opportunity to see my glass pal, Mandy Marxen, V.P. of Marketing for Gardner Glass Products, Inc.  Before leaving Atlanta, I told Mandy that I wanted to visit their facility to see first-hand how their products are made.

Yesterday morning I jumped in my car and travelled to North Wilkesboro, NC to visit Mandy and the good people at Gardner Glass Products.   Gardner Glass Products, Inc. is the maker of Dreamwalls Glass backpainted glass.

I’m always interested in how products are made.  I think learning about how a product is made is like learning about the history of someone you just met.   Seeing a product like Dreamwalls glass start at one end of the manufacturing line and all of the processes it goes through, not to mention all of the people who work so hard to make it happen, gives the product more meaning to me.  I’ll never look at another Dreamwalls Glass installation without thinking about the manufacturing process and all of the wonderful people at Gardner Glass Products who work so hard to make it happen.

I want to thank Mandy Marxen for allowing me to visit Gardner Glass Products and for taking time out of her busy schedule to be such a wonderful “tour guide.” I had an awesome time!

**BLOG ALERT**

Hey, in case you missed it, I’ve got a new Designers On Design blog post over at Decorative Glass Magazine.  This month I interview glass tile designer, Michelle Prosek!  Michelle is a super talented artist pushing the boundaries of decorative glass tile.  I know you’ll like her work as much as I do.

Dreaming of Dreamwalls

Let’s talk back-painted glass.

I already knew about Dreamwalls Color Glass  by Gardner Glass Products, Inc., but last week I stopped by Clear-Vue Glass and talked to my good friend, Leslie Mason.  Leslie told me something I didn’t know.  Dreamwalls products are available in different tile sizes.  I started to feel weak in the knees, my heart started pounding, and my head started spinning.  Oh my, what I could do with those tiles!

If you aren’t familiar with Dreamwalls, pay attention…

Dreamwalls is a back-painted glass using ultra clear, low-iron Starphire glass, so the color you specify is the color you see. A proprietary, state-of-the-art paint technology is used to manufacture and fabricate Dreamwalls Color Glass in limitless color options using a durable heat-cured, two coat system. Size capabilities ranging from 4″ x 4″ to 96″ x 144″ are possible, with reproducible color consistency from the first piece to the last piece.

What does that mean?

You can also get Dreamwalls in an acid etch finish.

I know at this point  you are grabbing those fan decks but wait, there is more.  There is Dreamwalls Marble Glass

You can get Dreamwalls Marble Glass in the same sizes as Dreamwalls color glass.  Click here to see all the patterns they have.  How about a shower with Sand Travertine tiles and an acid etched patterned tile for the border?

The possibilities are endless.
